The Guardians of Watersheds
High up in the Andes, communities of small farmers guard the rivers that nourish the valleys below. Our work in watershed management left us deeply concerned by these interrelations. In fact, we realized how important cooperation between people upstream and water users downstream is for both. Without support for mountain farmers, and payments for their ecosystem services, it will be impossible to protect water sources in sustainable ways. These photo project tries to illustrate hoew deeply we were impressed by the unique personalities and landscapes high up in the watersheds.
